Andrea Kang is a freelance illustrator, designer, toy maker and all round magic maker. She graduated with her Masters from the Rhode Island School of Design and, since, has created a world filled with stoic bears and creatures that make you yearn to be young again...
We are beyond excited that Andrea created this original artwork specially for our 'My Happy Place' Art Exhibition in support of the Dandelion Support Network. And to top it off, we recently caught up with Andrea to find out more about her work, dreams and inspirations...
What inspires you?
So many different things, but if I had to name a few, nature, memories, awkward moments in time, and traveling.
How did you develop your signature style?
Years of playing around and experimenting with all different types of characters and mediums. I then decided on what parts I liked best and then consistently created around those ideas. From there, a style naturally evolved with time.
What do you love most about being an artist?
Being able to wake up and do what I love everyday. Also, being able to connect with all different types of people through my illustrations and toys.
What do you find most rewarding about using your art for a good cause?
That I can contribute a visual experience to the community that may help brighten someone’s day.
What was your favourite thing to do as a kid?
Building forts with pillows, blankets, sofa cushions, and chairs and then eating, playing, and napping in them.
What is your 'happy place’?
A waterfront view in a quiet house with a selection of delicious desserts + tea.
