Hanna Konola might sound like a wonderful desert you would order at a fancy restaurant, but believe it or not she is actually a designer, artist and illustrator living and working in Helsinki. But fear not, her work is sweeter and far more enjoyable than any sweet treat you could ever order...
We absolutely adore her work – everything about it feels fresh and original. From the gorgeous colour combinations to the use of delicate detailing like spots and lines that create a visual story for the eyes to feast on. We have many of her works already hanging in our homes so we were thrilled when she agreed to create an original piece for our 'My Happy Place' Art Exhibition in support of the Dandelion Support Network
We recently caught up with Hanna to find out more about the piece she has created for this important cause...
What inspires you?
Change of the seasons, the simple things in life, creative people, playfulness.
How did you develop your signature style?
I don't really know, in a way it just happened. I try to focus on things I'm most interested in. Also I try to find something new all the time.
What do you love most about being an artist?
That I can create something from almost nothing and that I can search for new things.
What do fine most rewarding about using your art for a good cause?
It gives a good feeling to the whole process, to know that it will help someone. That's the way it should always be in one way or another.
What was your favourite thing to do as a kid?
I did like drawing, perhaps to have time for myself and my thoughts. But I also enjoyed all the plays we created with my sisters, built huts for ourselves and our toys, had fashion shows, sewed clothes, built huge lego towns... Self-made things like that.
What is your 'happy place'?
It's a set of mind, calm but ever changing.
