Hand made, original and crafted with love is what Min Pin is all about. Penny Ferguson - aka Min Pin – has amazing talent across a wide range of disciplines, from painting and illustration to jewellery making. We love her kooky characters and pretty pastel hues and we are so grateful to have an original piece from Min Pin in our 'My Happy Place' Art Exhibition in support of the Dandelion Support Network...
We caught up with Penny to find out more about what makes her tick...
What inspires you?
Lots of things! All the designers and illustrators that I am into, the worlds of the bands that I love, weird stuff on the internet, dogs! Lots of things. I have an inspo blog online that I try to put all the things I love onto. It's like a mood board I guess for all my favourite things! woweeblog.tumblr.com... Go check it out.
How did you develop your signature style?
I think that my signature style grew out of mash up of all the things above. And over time it just gets further and further away from where I started and hopefully eventually turns into its own thing.
What do you love most about being an artist?
I see myself as a designer primarily, not really an artist. I love art but it doesn't hit me in the same spot as design does. What I absolutely love about being a designer though is getting to visualise new abstract, romantic worlds and feeling the satisfaction of sweet perfection! Haha.
What do you find most rewarding about using your art for a good cause?
Knowing that if I am spreading something in the world, that it is something good. I think that a lot of mindless rubbish is spread everyday and if I can promote some good vibes and help out where I can, then I am very happy.
What was your favourite thing to do as a kid?
I was a big comic book kid. I didn't really read them but I wrote heaps of them! I would create lots of characters and write these ridiculous storylines. I loved it!
What is your 'happy place'?
My happy place is all of the love I have for my friends and family. To me, nothing beats that.
