Welcome to the wonderful world of Ohara Hale! Hale is mighty-talented human being based in Montreal who can sing, write, and illustrate books for children. We are beyond thrilled to have an original piece from Ms Hale included in our 'My Happy Place' Art Exhibition in support of the Dandelion Support Network...
We caught up with Ohara to find out more about the design she has created and what makes her tick...
What inspires you?
The natural world always keeps me in awe. Simple things like the patterns the shadows of leaves make on the wall or the wind gently blowing on petals or surfaces of ponds and lakes.
How did you develop your signature style?
Drawing over and over one million times until I started to learn how to connect what I felt and saw in my mind/heart to my hand.
I think we all have a feeling of what we'd like to create and it takes us some time to get there - but - with patience and persistence and dedication - you get there and find you own self waiting for you with open arms.
What do you love most about being an artist?
The ability to connect people together - to create happy spaces or thoughtful moments with another person via the language of art/communication. To have a way to make positive change.
What do find most rewarding about using your art for a good cause?
It makes it all worth it. All the training and studying and 10,000 hours working hard so that one day the good work can be used to change the world in positive ways.
What was your favourite thing to do as a kid?
Sing (which I also do as my "sonic art"), play instruments, write songs, read read read and make, draw, write books. Be outside. Hug.
What is your 'happy place'?
Anywhere I can sit for a moment in the sun and take a deep breath and feel peaceful. Happy places can be anywhere - anywhere you are - as long as you happy in your heart.
