Simple shapes with stunning colours can create a spectacular effect when manoeuvred in just the right way. There is no one who does it more masterfully than the very talented Pete Cromer. Pete is a designer, illustrator and one very happy art creator. He hails from the Surf Coast of Victoria and we are truly honoured to have an original artwork by Pete in the 'My Happy Place' Art Exhibition in support of the Dandelion Support Network...
We caught up with Pete to find out more about his colourful world...
What inspires you?
I’m inspired a lot by my friends and family, the people I love. I’m driven by the feelings and emotions I get from them, mainly happiness. This is a starting point for all my work; it inspires the shapes and colours I then create.
How did you develop your signature style?
I always struggle with this question, but It’s just how I’m wired I guess, like how a salmon knows to swim back upstream. I can’t think of any other way to explain it.
What do you love most about being an artist?
It’s a good feeling knowing that what I create can impact others in a positive way. I also love that my life doesn’t have any routines or boundaries these days.
What do find most rewarding about using your art for a good cause?
I’m just happy to help where I can.
What was your favourite thing to do as a kid?
Draw and explore. The world of fantasy is the best. I love strange creatures and beings from other worlds. I would draw them tirelessly. I was always lost in my imagination.
What is your 'happy place’?
Puppies!! The thought of them instantly sets off crazy happy bursts. They’re happy, infectious, exciting, energetic and smile making critters that force you to throw away your adult persona and speak in a totally nonsensical language. Who doesn’t love puppies! The more the better…. hey! yeah!
