Mama's We Love | Penny Needham

MEET PENNY - MAMA TO THREE BEAUTIFUL BOYS - JAX, ZAC AND BILLY. SHE SHARES WHAT MOTHERHOOD MEANS TO HER AND HOW SHE GOES ABOUT HER DAY TO DAY LIFE AS A MAMA.

What does motherhood mean to you?

It is the greatest gift, privilege & adventure that I’ll always be grateful for.
It’s giving your heart and soul to these sweet little extensions of you & wanting to be the kindest, most generous version of yourself for them. It’s long nights and short days, mending hurt knees & feelings, watching them learn new skills & meet milestones, being a safety net, holding them tight before they sleep & kissing those little button noses because this is and forever will be the most treasured, surreal, challenging, fulfilling time in my life.

What is your favourite memory since becoming a Mum?

Hearing those little heart beats at the ultra sounds, the tiny flutters that turn into kicks & Holding each of my boys for the very first time.

What does a normal day look like for you?

We are usually all up early 5.30am, my husband’s gone to work and we get ready for our day. Drop off's at school for Jax, & Zac does 2 days of preschool. Billy and I will potter around home with cleaning, prepping dinner, tummy time/play, feeding, getting him to nap (repeat) or if Zac's home we will go for walks to the park/dairy for a sneaky treat or activities at home (he’s obsessed with dinosaurs so lately I’ve been doing lots of different Dino small world setups or digs). After school if we have no swimming lessons or sport practices on we head home for afternoon tea and the boys usually create some sort of magic with their duplo, connetix toys or act like little hurricanes through the house haha before having dinner and then it’s sweet dreams.

What is something you like to do for a bit of down time?

I do love a good TV series when the boys are all asleep (and I should be too) but it’s nice to unwind with a sneaky chocolate or three.

What is the best piece of advice you have received since becoming a Mum?

“Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are their world and they love and adore you.”
(because we all get that mum guilt at some point).

Who is your parenting role model?

I would definitely say my mum she is the most kind, caring, warm hearted, strong, brave women. We grew up feeling so loved and all I want to do is create that same environment for our boys.

How are you celebrating Mother's Day this year?

Just a quiet day at home, maybe a cafe date for lunch with the family. I love the boys little gestures for Mother’s Day like flowers picked from the garden aka daisies off the lawn & handmade cards.
